June 30 Deadline Approaches! COVID-19 Food Benefit for Kids!
“Pandemic-EBT” food assistance (P-EBT) applications are due by June 30. P-EBT fills gaps for children who lost access to school meals because of the pandemic. Children up to age 21 who were certified for free or reduced-price meals in Texas during the 2019-20 school year can receive a one-time benefit of $285 per child. Children who attend a school that offers free meals are also eligible.
• The P-EBT food relief benefit is available regardless of immigration status or citizenship of the children, parents or caregivers.
• Accepting P-EBT benefits does not impact a parent or child’s immigration status. The “public charge rule” that threatens to hold an immigrant’s use of public benefits against them when applying for residency does NOT apply.
